Home Truths

Posted on 06 November 2006 by Freya North

Our mother ran off with a cowboy from Denver when we were small…

Brought up by their eccentric uncle Django, the McCabe sisters had assumed their mid-thirties would be a time of happiness and stability.
The youngest, Cat, returns home from four years abroad, to start a new phase of her life. Easy – or so she thinks.
Fen, the middle sister, is determined to be a better mother to her baby daughter than her own was to her – but might this be at the expense of her love-life?
And is the eldest, Pip, too busy taking care of her stepson, her husband, her sisters, her uncle to notice her own needs?
At Django’s 75th birthday party, secrets are revealed that will change how the three sisters view their family forever. Heart and home, previously intertwined, are forced apart as identities are called into question.

Mothers, daughters, lovers, liars… what do you do when you find out that your sisters aren’t quite your sisters?

What can I say, the McCabe quadrilogy will always be my favourite set of your books. Home truths was the most perfect and fitting end to the girls McCabe and Django although I didn’t want it to end. I am reading your most recent book now and I cannot put it down, I only wish I possessed a talent to write with such style. I am in admiration for your work and you are my favourite author having discovered your books at a local library many years ago, it started with Polly and I hope it continues for many times to come x

  4. Kristina Says:

I love your books. You are by far one of my favourite authors. I have still to get Cat and Pip but I loved Fen. Matt is an amazing man. I don’t want to read Home Truths until I finish off Cat and Pip. But I when I read that Fen had a daughter I was so happy. I am praying it’s Matt’s. Your books are fantastic and I cannot wait for more, Secrets was brilliant. I couldn’t put it down. A common story for all your books.

Hi!! I just wanted to write and tell you how much I really love you’re books. I have purchased all of the books you have wrote so far and I hope that you write many more!
The stories of the McCabe sisters were my favourite. I just have Pip to read before Home Truths but I couldn’t help having a peek to see what was going to happen to the characters!!

You are so brilliant at writing and have made my start to university a lot better being able to lose myself in your stories. I always wanted to become a writer of romance novels…Primary Education is a bit far from that! haha.

Thank you Freya North for your super work. Let me know when a new book is out!!

    Emily xx

I thouroughly enjoyed this book, I just didn’t want it to end! Please Freya, just ONE MORE on the McCabes? I’ve just started Pillow Talk, Secrets next and then I’ve read them all! Keep up the good work :0)

  10. Freya North Says:

Nia – you may just be in luck as I have been toying with the idea of another McCabe book – this time a prequel, set in the 1970s when Django first takes charge of those 3 little girls… Watch this space! Freya

    Hi Freya,

Firstly I would like to say that I am a great fan of your books, I have read 4 so far and have just acquired Cat, fen and Pip. Sfter reading the previous comments – do I need to read those before I start on Home Truths?
    Thanks,
    Helen

  12. Freya North Says:

    Hey Helen
thanks so much for this. I hope you’ll enjoy the McCabe saga too! If you already have Cat, Fen and Pip – perhaps read them before Home Truths (which is set five years later – though written in such away for the reader not needing to have read the previous books). Cat, Fen and Pip are written in the same time-frame, so you can read those in any order! Do let me know what you enjoy about them! I’m planning on writing a prequel to their stories!

  14. Sian Says:

Oooh! Just reading that a prequel is an idea makes me happy! My fiancé gave me ‘Fen’ for my birthday after having ‘Pip’ and ‘Home Truths’ already. I love it. I get so engrossed in it!

I would love to get a ‘In the future’ paragraph for this book, and what goes on with everyone (I won’t name things to spoil).
