Pillow Talk

Posted on 04 February 2008 by Freya North

A story of first love and second chances from the bestselling author of Love Rules The sleepwalker. By day, Petra Flint is a talented jeweller working in a lively London studio. By night, she sleepwalks. She has 40 carats of the world’s rarest gemstone under her mattress but it’s the skeletons in her closet that make it difficult for her to rest. The insomniac. At one time a promising song-writer, Arlo Savidge now teaches music at a boys’ boarding school in North Yorkshire. He assumes he’s happy with his isolated lifestyle. But, like Petra, ghosts from his past disturb his sleep. Putting the past to bed. Petra and Arlo loved each other from afar during their schooldays. Now, seventeen years later, in a tiny sweetshop one rainy day, they stand before each other once more. Could this be their second chance?

  7. Sheena Says:

    Hi Freya

I have been writing a sort of witty self help book the last year dedicated to women, but I have felt a bit apprehensive as I don’t enjoy reading myself, so I have put it on the shelf and given up on it until now, as I have just returned from mexico as a new woman thanks to you, I have only read 2 books my whole life, I could never quite get what the whole fuss was about reading, but now at the grand age of 28 I finally get it, thanks to you. I read the whole book on holiday and could not put it down, I was gutted when it finished, I could not find another to buy in player del carmen. I went and bought Secrets today and almost feel sick with excitement, I am now converted. who would have thought ready could be so exhilarating. I am going to start writing again and even if it never gets published it doesn’t matter because now I have my very own love affair with reading because of you.

    Many thanks

    Sheena

  8. Freya North Says:

    your such an amazing writer

  10. Clarissa Realista Says:

I read this book whilst I was on holiday in Paris a few days ago, it only took me a day and a half to read which I found sad since I wanted more of Arlo and Petra’s story. I am currently re-reading the book again! The whole plot with teenage first loves, exotiscism of the Tanzanite story and the twists and turns made it such an exciting read- I am definetly going to recommend this book to my sisters and friends, whilst I read your other books too!

Freya, what are you doing to me? My social life has stopped, im not going out and spending money….all because i cant get enough of your books. Ive become a recluse (apart from having to go to work and run the family home). I read Pillow Talk so fast, my husband said “Gosh, slow down…it must be good” (the book that is). I was wondering though, are you going to incorporate the friends reunited/facebook type of mania into any of your new novels. I have found and reformed many old friendships via that media, but im not sure if the past should stay in the past. Thankyou for giving me Petra and Arlo’s romance to pep me up.

  12. Flo Says:

  13. Yvonne Says:

I recently picked up a copy of Cosmo to find Pillow Talk along with it.
Started reading it the other day and I just could NOT put it down. It hooked me from the start and I loved it. Even cried at the end (about 10 mins ago as I’ve just finished it!!)Petra and Arlo were just brilliant characters.
I have now also become fascinated with Tanzanite and I’m looking adoringly at rings on many jewellers websites!! Hoping to purchase one soon.
I am off to buy Secrets tomorrow.
Just thought I’d let you know you have acquired one more fan :)

  16. Emma Says:

When I picked up my copy of Cosmo a couple of months back, I didn’t realise I would have read one of the most compelling books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I absolutley adored Pillow Talk. I couldn’t put it down and I had so much fun reading it…finding out what happens to Petra and Arlo. I have recommended it to so many friends. The story is great, the characters are fabulous, and it really makes me want to get my hand on some Tanzanite, just to experience the awe everyone in the book feels :) Thank you for writing an absolutley amazing book. Also, thank you for opening up this nineteen year old’s eyes to the world of romantic literature! I can’t wait to finish Secrets!

    Hi Freya,

This was the first book that I read from your collection, and like the other people above I couldn’t put it down!! The characters were so alive in my head, I coulkd imagine every detail within the pages, the scenes, the sights, the smells, everything! I read this book for hours on end and I eas severely disappointed with myself for getting through it so quickly, I had to read more!! I went on to Secrets and again I couldn’t put it down!!

Since reading the above I’ve read Pip, Cat, Fen and Home Truths and loved everything about them! I’m now on to Love Rules and I’m getting suck in again. I’ll be ordering your first 3 novels next (Sally, Chloe and Polly) and lookin forward to getting suck in again!
